ALLENTOWN, N.J. (Nov. 21, 2007) -- The Upper Freehold Regional Education Foundation (UFREF) will hold its first "Sno-Ball" Softball Tournament fundraiser February 9-10, 2008.
"The event will be similar to other softball tournaments but with one exception: it will be played in the middle of winter," says James Derasmo, UFREF president. "Snow on the ground allows for unusual playing conditions and lots of fun. But the best part is the tournament will generate revenue for grants that will ultimately benefit students in the Upper Freehold Regional School District."
Playing rules for the UFREF Sno-ball Softball Tournament will be in accordance with the ASA and include stipulations, which will be provided to teams when they receive their registration packets. The tournament will have both men and co-ed divisions. However, co-ed teams may not play with more men than women.
Games will be one-pitch, single elimination and play will last five innings (except for the championship games, which will be seven). At least eight players are required to start the game. Trophies will be awarded to the top teams in each division.
The tournament will be played on the fields behind the UFR elementary school.
"We're just beginning to recruit teams and sponsors," says Derasmo. "We are also looking for umpires to volunteer their time and ump a few games."
Team registration is $200, and is not refundable. The entry deadline is Jan. 26, 2008. Checks must be made out to UFREF and sent to Sno-Ball Softball, c/o UFREF, P.O. Box, 109, Allentown, NJ 08501.
For an entry form and copy of Sno-Ball Softball Tournament Playing Rules, visit the UFREF Website or write: Sno-Ball Softball, c/o UFREF, P.O. Box, 109, Allentown, NJ 08501. For more information about the tournament, contact Syd Guerrero at (609) 577-2700.
